Gaudi’s Facts...

Gaudi was know to have a short fuse.
He said his bad temper was the only thing
in his life that he was never able to control.

Gaudi was in the army for 3 years from
1874-1877. He never faced combat but it
was a requirement he had to fulfill. Gaudi
enlisted on the 7th July and had to pay 37
pesetas for his uniform.

The wavy walls in Casa Mila were meant
to portray the ocean and the doors and
windows look like they are made of sand,
an example of Gaudi’s love of nature.

The city authorities continuously tried to stop
Gaudi’s work as it exceeded city regulations.
The only thing they actually ever assigned
him to design was the street lights
.

Gaudi’s Quotes...

“Because of this, originality consists in
returning to the origin.”

“Copiers do not collaborate.”

“Those who look for the laws of Nature as
a support for their new works collaborate
with the creator.”

“The creation continues incessantly
through the media of man.”

“Color in certain places has the great
value of making the outlines and structural planes seem more energetic.”

When objections were raised as to the
extended completion date of the Sagrada
Familia, Gaudi said:
